About ronaldbeentjes
RONALD BEENTJES – DIRECTOR/WRITER Ronald has steadily build up a portfolio with short films, commissioned work and launched No. 33 Productions last year to bring his several strands of work under one name. Ronald has also written a sitcom with Rocket Room Productions and wrote and produced the short Ray Morley which was selected for the Palm Springs Shorts Fest and several other international film festivals. He collaborates frequently with cinematographer Tania Freimuth. The short entered into The Virgin Media Shorts -Chance Meeting is based on a poem by Suzi Rapoport and was his first film involving puppetry and live action. Ronald has always been immensely interested in the origin of fairy-tales and their role in society. Why he used to read them as a child he did not quite understand as they caused many sleepless nights. This early fascination with the macabre and fantastical spilled over in his love of cinema, especially the works of Jim Henson and The Return To Oz. Not surprisingly, his work has always had a touch of the surreal and otherworldly and his current short film Tail's End deals with the sacrifices we make for love. Taking his inspiration from the Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson, he used the mermaid's tail as a metaphor for the things we are willing to give up for love. Ronald's currently developing two feature films: Seed of Belonging - about a mythical world of roots that connects us all and Foundation - the anti Glee about the trials and tribulations of a group of misfits doing a foundation course in Musical Theatre with the hope to make it big in the West End of London.
