The last minute upload checklist

11 July, 2012 10:23am

There's just a day left to enter Virgin Media Shorts and your terrific entries are rolling in thick and fast. But we’d really hate for you to score an own goal by not being au fait with the competition rules. So here's a quick rundown of the criteria your entry needs to meet in order to be eligible for the shortlist.

THE RULES

  • Any shorts longer than two minutes and 20 seconds won’t be eligible to win, no matter how much we love them. There’s still time to do some last minute cutting, so if you want to resubmit your entry, drop us an email and we’ll gladly remove the first version for you.
  • Please, no nudity or potty mouths. As the 13 shortlisted films will play in cinemas, they need to be family friendly so please make sure your entry has a U or PG rating. Check out the BBFC’s site for thorough guidelines, as certification is ultimately their call, not ours.
  • If you use music in your film, you must have permission to use it. The best way to make sure you're on the right side of legal is to use original music. But if there's a song you want and you're not sure how to secure the rights to use it, have a read here.

UPLOAD GREMLINS

Having problems uploading your film? Take a look at the specifications and ensure your film meets all the technical criteria. Still not working? Email telling us exactly what the issue is, and give us as much info as possible. include the file size, format, codec, bitrate and anything else that might help. We'll do our best to figure out what's wrong.

If you think you might need to do an emergency edit, just let us know and we’ll help you get your brand spanking new version up on the site. But be quick, the competition closes on Thursday 12th July at 12pm (midday) sharp!

LUCKY 13

And remember, as of tomorrow we will start counting up the number of shares each film gets. The film which is shared the most via Twitter (including #ShortsLucky13 and the fim's name) and Facebook will enter the shortlist, so good luck!
