Blogs on shorts: Part three

3 August, 2011 1:32pm

Earlier this week, a link to John Hamlett’s blog for his Virgin Media Short The POW landed with a, erm, pow in our inbox. We loved its slick design and wealth of unique content, so it’s found its way into today’s blog spot.

Browsing through the site, you’ll find a movie trailer, a ‘making of’ video and a picture gallery, including movie stills and detailed storyboard sketches. The attention to detail with the extra content keeps the reader engaged throughout and helps bring a great short to life.

There’s also a ‘news and info’ page that’s packed with nuggets of Second World War trivia and behind the scenes secrets. Here’s a few that caught our eye: -

The title music was performed by German pianist Walter Gieseking, who famously recorded a concert in Berlin in 1944 despite the background noise of an air raid

• The film was shot in two days in December when the temperature never rose above freezing

• The rail yard scenes were filmed in Carnforth,; the same location as David Lean's 'Brief Encounter' (1945) and the home of the real Hogwarts Express steam train.

Despite all the hard work that John Hamlett and team have put into The POW’s blog - not to mention the film itself - they aren’t resting on their laurels –a sequel to The POW is already in the works. You can even apply to get involved in the sequel as an actor, musician or crew member, so drop them a line if you fancy starring in their next short – and their next blog.

If your short has a blog and you want to share it with the world, email us the details and we’ll be back with another pick next week.
