Blog your film to the top
18 March, 2012 4:13pmYou're putting the finishing touches to your film and getting ready to press the 'enter' button, but after slaving away on your film for so long, why leave it at that? We think your work deserves to be seen by as many people as possible and there’s lots you can do to spread the word.
Blogs are a brilliant way of getting people talking about your film. Take a leaf out of Luke Snellin’s book, director of 2009’s winning film Mixtape. Luke blogged about Virgin Media Shorts throughout the competition, from submission day to victory night.
Starting a blog is as easy as pie – use a simple, free blogging template such as Wordpress or Blogger, fill in your details and away you go.
So what do you blog about? There’s no point sending people to a page with nothing on it but the film title and a link to your entry. Content is king so it’s important to start accumulating it right from the beginning; take behind the scenes photos while you’re filming, keep a production diary. This way your readers get some real inside info about the film, something they won’t find anywhere else. You could also include interviews with your cast and crew, and talk about other competitions or festivals your film has been entered in. You can even stream your Twitter feed through your blog, and keep your followers updated in realtime.
If you’ve already blogged about your film, email us the link or tell us on Twitter. Each week we’ll put one blog in the spotlight here on the Virgin Media Shorts site for thousands of film fans to learn more about your short (and to teach the less social media-savvy how it’s done) - so don’t miss your chance for a bit of extra exposure.
