Blog of the week: For Keeps
22 August, 2012 11:06amThe gorgeous short 'For Keeps' made a repeat appearance in this year's competition and last night director Ed Lilley pinged us over a link for the blog. It's our favourite kind, crammed with stills, production shots and even a rehearsal video. This is how to keep people coming back to your blog - load it with interesting stuff that they won't find anywhere else.
The blog starts with a story of the film makers' memories of playing with marbles at school ('we’d get a piece of white chalk, draw a sketchy circle on the floor and take it in turns to try and hit the others marble') and goes on to and goes on to thank the pupils of Fred Longworth High School, where they found their cast.
There are some great insights into the casting process, detailing why certain children were chosen for various roles:
'Danny Ward played Bruce - Sophie’s arch marble enemy, and cool kid in school. He is effectively Chris Childs (the guy I lost my oily king to). In the workshops he had a real cool presence about him – everyone liked and respected him and he was always the centre of attention without having to shout too much. He’s quite a shy and quiet lad actually but over the two days really grew in confidence and fitted perfectly for the part. Some of the details of his performance are excellent – and he uses his eyebrows brilliantly.'
We loved reading the For Keeps blog and will be keeping it bookmarked!
