About manalivestudios

2599
Liam and Stu were brought together by two things; a love of the surreal and a bizarre encounter with a pizza hut employee that made them laugh for hours. Since then, they have tried to recapture the hilarity of that moment and have even formed their own media production company - "man ALIVE Studios".

good work, would have been much more believable if the actors were older no offence...acting was ok though.

    Not bad there mate!

If you accept a little friendly constructive critique??

Watch your single shots, the framing was a bit weird on them, you had the angle for a two shot there. Maybe those would have been better with some tighter close ups, and mix it up with a couple of two shots.

    well done

Mr. moog is absolutely correct. However, we actually did film a variety of shots, including a good two shot, that we couldn't use because of absolutely awful sound capture (and we only had one camera)! In other words, we couldn't sync the good sound to the shots and had to make the best of it. That's what happens when you only have a day to shoot! :-/

Greetings from the mouse funeral. Thought yer film was a decent effort. I always think it's very hard to pull off these American style but shot in Britain type short films. I think the writing is the strong point, I just think yer need to forget whatever the hell their doing in Hollywood and make it relate more to the world that I'm guessing you live in; if the world you live in feels a little dull than just exaggerate the crap out of it. May the schwarz be with you.

I know how that goes with the sound, all the best sound was useless for the shots we used in our short Everyday. I think overall Mr.Alice was very good, some good work there, but agree with some of the other comments about the actors' ages. Overall very cute.

I know those problems only too well mon amis. I once worked with a cameraman who assured me shots were fine, but when I reviewed them, you'd find members of the crew in frame as he panned...

We live and learn eh ? :)

    THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

Very good short. I agree with comment about older actors needed - ones who can act ( no offence guys but you don't need to do everything yourselves ). Might have been more of a shocker if he had stabbed him first before telling him 'Mr. Alice is dead'. Might benefit from a more interesting location or a long lens as well.

Still - very good story and neat dialogue. Didn't see the end coming at all, so good writing. Worth doing again, which is more than I would say about a lot of short films. Well done. Like your style and hope you're not offended.

Hi, I read on sumthing for nothing in the comment section to check this film out, I am glad I did. Nothing wrong with the age of the guy with the sunglasses on, but 'Mr Alice' could have been a bit older to make him came across a bit more of a powerful man. But other than that, it is one of my favourite films along with Roderick.

After watching the short I was going to give a few comments both good and could be better.

However, most of it is already said above. I look forward to your next project. Can't wait to see what you can shoot in two days and improved camera techniques. Also, maybe some post-production image manipulation to give more a filmlook. Just like the black and white sections of the movie.

    Digital is so flat.

    Good luck guys.

    Hi guys,
Glad you liked 'Wolves', thanks for the comments.
Enjoyed your short - great lighting for the black & white scenes, contrasts were perfect.
If you're shooting on digital you should get hold of the SGPro, a 35mm lens adaptor which lets you use prime lenses on digital cameras (works with all Pro DV/HDV cameras; the XM2, PD150, Z1, etc.)
Check out the SGPro website: www.sgpro.co.uk
It's what we used to shoot 'Wolves' but the DoF doesn't really transpire that great in the online version, however when you watch it on a HDTV you really notice the difference.
Good luck with your entry and let me know how you get on with the lens adaptor/your next project.
    All my best,
    David

    Great premise guys. IMHO:

Generally feels like it's ripped from a longer piece because I'm not sure I get all of the narrative?

The black and white material was awesome, much better than the colour. The latter, I would've liked to have seen shot M/ECU.

Actors, as mentioned should be older. Love the soundtrack.

    Keep it up.

Great story, but poor acting and bad casting. Don't think the age of the actors matters but they need to give a more convincing performance. To me way too much head movement from both actors on the bench, stillness would have made both appear more powerful and sure of themselves, as the characters would be. Dialogue delivered as if read. Shame film has great potential. Excellent music too.
