the simplicity of imagery and music helped emphasise that wish to hold someone you've lost, tightly, for one more time... great storyline eroded a little through the background noise (cars) as this made it difficult to hear the dialogue

I liked the idea but I had to read the synopsis to work out what was going on. The characters also jump around in the composition which makes it a bit hard to read at times. The sound was also very quite and hard to hear at times. I had to scrub through it a few times to make sure the woman in black was definitely two different people. They look very similar and because you can't see the picture in the paper very clearly it's hard to say that it is the dead sister at the start. Perhaps it's because it's on a small screen? I think I would have been clearer if the woman looked more different, again maybe it's because it's on a small screen. I liked how you introduced her coming out of the blur. Did you show your film to anyone other than friends and relatives who knew the story before you finished it? Feedback from a fresh eye is very important. In the end I found the story a bit unclear, which is a shame because I think the idea was very good. I hope that was constructive feedback.

This film was made especially for Virgin Media shorts - filmed one week before, editied and only uploaded just in time to meet the deadline. Apparently the master tape is better. Thanks for your feedback.

Thank you! Finally someone notice the cut is jumping. Phew.
It's basic screen grammar. I won't say because of short of times etc therefore it's bad. I will continue to make film at this pace.
All I am going to say is this - can you make a film 2:39 seconds (shooting time 2 hours 30 minutes - all cast meet 48 hours prior to the shoot) about 3 days in the post - the first cut got completely destroy and redo from ground up 24 hours before the deadline.
Thank you for all the constructive criticism.
Let me borrow from my favor director - The next will be better :)

Report this commentWhat an incredible film. So moving, eerie and captivating after just a few minutes - I have never seen a film be so poignant in such a short space of time.
The girl also looks like a different person after she has been hugged. Maybe that is my imagination playing tricks on me?

Comps to you Joel and the rest of the crew...
Great performances from all, especially the living sister, though she does get the screentime too! I take it your dof adaptor was used and pictures look great and true to the intimate feel of the story. Like the confusion theme all along, would have liked the revelation of the sister's death in paper to have been clearer/more screentime or CU of picture in the cut. Audio quality and mix let it down unfortunately.
